Courses


The following courses are available to be taught by a Learning by Design representative. The courses can be customized to fit your specific needs and environment.


Meeting Facilitation (16 hours) - In this intensive two-day workshop, you’ll learn key concepts, skills, tools, and techniques for facilitating meetings. Through experiential activities and feedback, you’ll have extensive opportunities to practice and build your facilitation skills. You will complete the course with an understanding of the value of facilitation and how to do it effectively. (An abbreviated version of this course can also be delivered in 12 hours)

Delivering Presentations (8 hours)
- While all elements of effective presentations are covered, emphasis, practice, and feedback in this one-day course focuses on presentation delivery. Through the use of videotape and one-on-one feedback, you will improve your physical delivery skills to help you maximize the impact of your message. (This course can also be combined with Creating Presentations – 16 hours) 


Creating Presentations (8 hours)
- All elements of effective presentations are covered in this course. The emphasis, practice, and feedback all focus on creating and organizing presentations. You’ll learn how to focus the scope based on your audience, determine the desired outcome and central idea of your presentation, effectively organize your presentations, and maximize the impact of message delivery by using the right supporting media. (This course can also be combined with Delivering Presentations – 16 hours)


Coaching (8 hours)
- In this course you’ll learn how to diagnose the developmental needs of others, develop coaching plans, effectively coach job-specific skills, and create a positive, open, and trusting relationship with your coworkers. Through feedback, self-assessments, real-life coaching situations, and reflection sessions you will identify your own coaching strengths and areas for improvement.


Strategic Planning
 (4 hours) - In this practical hands on workshop you will learn about and create a mission, vision and a strategic plan to help make your goals a reality.
Building Teams (time varies depending on need) - Through interaction and experience you will gain a solid understanding of successful teambuilding strategies, basic concepts of high performing teams, and practical tools for increasing team effectiveness.

Experiential Team Building Workshops (time varies depending on need)
- Designed for intact teams, this fully customized workshop will focus specifically on your team’s needs.  We will work with you to customize experiential activities specifically designed to help with the challenges facing your team.


Listening (8 hours)
- In this course, you will learn how to use your listening skills to accomplish your tasks and build better relationships. The course is organized around a 3-part model for listening 1) focus – getting ready to listen, 2) reflect – analyzing the whole message, and 3) respond – communicating your response and initiating dialogue.


Change Management (4 hours)
- In this course you will differentiate between change and transitions, discuss individuals’ responses to change, and use the William Bridges model to examine transitions in your personal and professional lives. Through personal reflection, experiential group activities, and discovery learning you will learn strategies that guide you and others through transitions.

Delegating (4 hours)
- If done correctly delegating can be an empowering tool to motivate employees. If done incorrectly it can turn your employees against you.In this course you'll learn the 3 steps to effective delegation: determing the task, determining the person, determining the approach.


Succession Planning (4 hours)
- Are you ready for the future? Are you developing the next generation of leaders? In this facilitated work session you will indentify key positions for succession; determine how to identify and recruit candidates; and create strategies to develop, support and evaluate progress.
Instructor skills (4 to 12 hours) - Being an effective instructor involves practice. It may also include changing some old habits. This day and a half workshop provides opportunities for both. You will participate in group activities, give individual presentations, observe others, and give and receive feedback. Workshop topics include: creating an interesting and motivating learning environment, delivery skills, working with media, running activities and discussions, and dealing with difficult classroom situations.

Instructional Design (8 hours)
- In this course you will learn the fundamentals of designing, developing, delivering learning programs. The course is organized around a 3-part model for instructional design 1) Analyze the learning need, 2) Design and develop learning programs, and 3) Deliver and evaluate learning programs. Topics include: needs analysis, writing learning objectives, choosing instructional methods, developing participant and instructor materials, and evaluation strategies.

Performance Evaluation and Coaching
(8 hours)
-  In this course you will learn a comprehensive process to objectively evaluate employees. Topics include: gathering data, assessing employee performance, conducting performance reviews, goal setting, determing who and how to coach.

Motivation (4 hours)
- Designed specifically for sales environments, this course will help you create motivation and incentive programs that really work. Using time tested psychological research you learn the three C's of any effective motivation program: competency, control and community.


Professional Skills
- Shorter (2 to 4 hour) topics can also be delivered on the following professional skills or could be combined to create a longer professional skills workshop. Short topics include:
